Vision: The Fantasy of the Perfect Toy
At the dawn of the information age, humanity started dreaming about what was possible in every aspect of human life. We became obsessed with augmenting every aspect of the human experience with this new digital layer which spread like a web wanting to cover as much surface area as possible.
While this was happening a generation of children were being exposed to a new type of entertainment, both in it’s interactive and non-interactive variants. These new forms of entertainment presented the opportunity to children having summers full of immersion into new worlds and imagining what was possible. The experience was social as well, everything was shareable through a screen, you could collect in-game companions, adventure to fictional lands and have a collective experience that would define childhoods across the world.
One such fantasy that was introduced during this period is the fantasy of the perfect toy, one which could accompany you to endless adventures, help you express yourself and your preferences and which would you could share with like-minded peers. However that fantasy fell short of reality, after several attempts at crystallizing that perfect toy, versatile enough to take you in unexpected adventures and take you to places you’ve never been before.
However the limitations are obvious, presented in both organic and un-organic forms, these perfect toys couldn’t see reality due to logistical and technological limitations. There was also the matter of incentives, which ended keeping the dream of the perfect toy just that, a dream.
